Bob Dole says Bob Dole wants to talk about Bob Dole
by Chet
Yesterday, I really like that word. I’ve never really thought about it, but it’s a very pretty word. Especially when every time I hear, read, or say the word is hear John, Paul, George, and Ringo strike a chord and play their beautiful song. That is why I like the word yesterday. I bring this up because I now have the soundtrack to Across The Universe. It is full of Beatles covers and other 1960s artists. I can’t wait to listen to all of it, although no one will ever be able to “cover” a 1960s song it just isn’t possible. I mean yes they can play the song, and record it, and call it a cover but the new artist will never improve the original content, and I believe that in order for a cover song to be successful it needs to either be better than the original or different enough to make it good. If you have proof that some one did a song better show me. Oh, and don’t even think about bringing William Shatner into this, he should have stuck to Star Trek.
Anyway, back to what I originally sat down to talk about. I had the honor of missing my Knot Theory class yesterday and instead going to see Bob Dole speak here on my campus. Yes that’s right, the Bob Dole. He came out on stage and told his story beginning with his days back at a university in Kansas where he decided to join the military, because he would be better for Uncle Sam. We learned that he used he GI Bill to gain his college degree then moved on to politics. He told us some of the funniest stories. He’s the only politician I’ve seen speak that wasn’t a complete stoic. All in all it was an exciting and fun experience, and I am glad to have missed Knot Theory for this once in a lifetime chance.
So a couple weeks back when we all first learned that Bob Dole was coming a friend of mine, J, asked someone he knew if they knew who Bob Dole was. J’s friend replied that he didn’t know who Bob Dole was, but everyone around them was cracking Bob Dole jokes, so J’s friend thought maybe they were all just yanking his chain. J finally told him that yes Bob Dole is a real person. He was the guy that invented the Pineapple! Sadly enough J’s friend believed him and told everyone he knew that all along he just couldn’t remember which fruit Dole dealt with. J sighs and says no you moron Bob Dole is a senator, ex-vice president, and ran against Clinton in 1996. Good times at college.
After Bob Dole my day continued normally until about 12:50 when I went down to the LSC Ballroom to donate blood. Yesterday was the SHSU v. SFA blood drive, what an interesting way to get blood, pair two rival schools together and give out free t-shirts!
I was meeting Nicole and Douglas at the drive, but when I got there there was a girl who fell to the floor and began seizing. I was like, “Oh my god, do I want to give blood today?” I waited until a free screener opened up and went in. She was a very nice Hispanic lady that had a great sense of humor. She asked what type of donation I would be giving that day I said Whole Blood, because that’s what I always do. Today though she talked me into giving double red blood cells through the Aphresis machine. I agreed, Douglas has been trying to talk me into since last year, he says that when it’s done you’re freezing and he loved that. I never really wanted to be freezing after giving blood, but yesterday I figured, what the hey.
They called my name and hooked me up. In the process of hooking me up they called Nicole down, she was still just giving whole blood. Apparently the pint of blood they wanted left her body in seven minutes! I don’t think that is healthy. She got really sick and lost feeling in her legs, and most of her bodily control. I couldn’t go help her because I was connected to the evil machine. I was finally done after 40 minutes of sitting there and I went to check on Nicole. She was so sickly. We walked her home and took care of her there.
They almost killed her we say. Maybe not literally but that’s what we’re going with. I don’t think she will ever give blood to Commit for Life again.
We finished Grey’s Anatomy season one last night, and began season two. Is it bad that I like that show so much?
