“See me ridin…”
by Chet
When I was sixteen I had my first accident. I was driving my mom’s Ford Explorer Sport Track. I was on my way back home from work and dropping some go workers off. Now mind you back home all the roads are two lanes and have no shoulders most of the time. I was doing about 55 mph when I came up behind a tractor-trailer that was doing maybe 45 mph. So of course I decided to pass it. While passing it the truck started to violently shake, and then I was upside down and the horn was blaring. Apparently while I was passing the axle broke and I rolled over and stuff for a little while. After the accident I couldn’t sleep for days, didn’t want to leave the house, and I really didn’t want to drive.
Since then I was afraid to drive too much. I was really comfortable driving down the country roads, but the idea of getting on a interstate by myself was terrifying. I haven’t had a car of my own in a few years, and I am now looking again. Also since I moved to Hunstville I’ve been driving girlfriend’s car up and down 45 to Conroe. It took her a while to convince me just to do that. Well last night on our way to Dane Cook I decided that the only way this was going to be a surprise was if I drove. So i actually drove from Huntsville into Downtown Houston and back again.
While driving I couldn’t help but think about how silly it was to be worried about this. So the whole thing went down nicely. Traffic was normal, but a little backed up while heading into town. I thought that was weird for a Friday night. Either way I am excited that I finally did that and will keep doing it. Now to find a car!
See you guys next time.
