Guilty Pleasures

by Chet

Hi…

My name is Chet, and I’m an Amy Winehouse fan.

I am not proud of this. I actually do not admit it often, but I decide it was time to come out after I recently received a copy of her Back to Black album from my boss. My relationship with Winehouse’s music began when I first heard Rehab and decided it was a cruddy song. Since then I have killed radios and plugged my ears to avoid the song. I also yelled at the television when she beat Corinne Bailey Ray for song of the year.

The next day I read an article in the Houston Chronicle. This article was written in defense of Winehouse, something that very has very rarely occurred in the media. The article went on to explain that several people feel that Winehouse did not deserve her Grammy wins because she is still leading an estranged life. The author of this article, which I will try to link at the end of this post, stated that he felt Winehouse deserves every award she has gotten because her music is real! By real I mean that there really were people wanting her to go to rehab, she really did have someone break her heart and leave her, and she really isn’t any good. Someone to compare her to that got more praise for her newest album than Winehouse did is Britney Spears. (Krystle I apologize in advance.) Spear’s new album sounds cruddy and emotionless. It seems like there was not heart put into it. It’s as if someone said Britney you need a new album here are the words to the songs I wrote for you and here is a sample of Justin Timberlake music for us to imitate. These were all points made by said article.

After completing the read I headed over to YouTube to see what I really thought of Ms. Winehouse’s music. I fell in heart with it. I don’t care for the lyrics of Rehab, though they are extremely catchy. Her music is also very poppy, but it has that class bluesy, jazzy, R&B sound that doesn’t exist anymore. I think I may revise my statement and say that I am in love with whoever created her music.

That’s enough of this nonsense. I just thought I would get this out, and stop hiding it form the world.
