“Some friends and I started a Fight Club.”

by Chet

Earlier this week I finished reading Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk. I’ve been hacking away at this 200-page wonder for about three weeks. I know that’s a ridiculous amount of time for a book that small, but I’ve been busy. I know that most people have probably watched or at least heard of the Fight Club movie starring Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter. As a very non-traditional precaution I recommend watching the movie first. The book’s story seems choppy and is hard to follow at first.

This book will almost make you want to start a fight club of your very own. Believe you me, I almost convinced myself that Fight Club-Huntsville, TX would be a good idea. Then I thought of how much fighting hurts. Scratch that idea, eh?

This book delves into the mind of the unnamed, schizophrenic, insomnia ridden protagonist and his best friend Tyler Durden. The path they lead into the unknown is twisted and violent. I hate to go on any further and risk spoiling the book. However if you’re interested in delving into the existential than go to the nearest Half Priced Books and pick up a copy of Fight Club. You will not be disappointed.

I recommend this for fans of:

  • The Inside by Isaac Marion
  • I ♥ Huckabees
  • Eternal Sunshine on the Spotless Mind

I’m sure there are others, but that’s what I’ve got for now.
