I call BS on this one.

I like to think of myself as quite a politically liberal charactar. It’s amazing the viewpoints I can hold since I was raised in South-East Texas. I don’t know if we fall under the general Bible Belt region, but we should have. Misled Republican-Conservatism is afoot in them dar hills. (Note: There are no hills in South-East Texas.) I do however have at least one conservative bone within my body. I hold a place in my heart for the death penalty. No statistically speaking it does not actually deter crimes from happening. It’s actually proven in other countries that the rate of crime isn’t necessarily changed for the better by the death penalty. It’s even shown that the death penalty has lost favor, and is continuing to lose favor across the globe. I believe however that even though the death penalty does not deter criminals, the world is a slightly better place when these people are no longer allowed to roam.

It’s interesting that this is coming out today, because we’re actually discussing the death penalty in my contemporary moral issues class. I may add more to this post when the discussion comes to an end. I may actually just append it with a new post above. For today though, take a moment to review the following CNN article.

Child rapists can’t be executed, Supreme Court rules

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 Wednesday that child rapists cannot be executed, concluding capital punishment can be applied only against murderers.

The ruling stemmed from the case of Patrick Kennedy, who appealed the 2003 death sentence he received in Louisiana after being convicted of raping his 8-year-old stepdaughter.

How do you all feel?
