Take Note

This past weekend I was in Frisco, TX at the annual Texas Public Relations Association Conference. This is my second year to attend, and I had just as great an experience this time as last. I went to the conference in order to learn and expand my ideas on the Public Relations field, and of course to spread my network. I traversed the wilderness of PR professionals, armed with my conversational skills and business card. Of course I was handing out my newest business card designed by the ultra talented Melissa (see her work at http://melissadesigns.com), and since I handed out those I decided it was time to unveil my newest site design. I’m extremely happy with it, and hope to have the last few touches added on soon. Leave some love about ideas on how to improve the design.
Now enough self gratification, it’s time to discuss what I learned. It’s time to jump on the bandwagon ladies and gentlemen, and join the Twitter-verse. It is the biggest thing in the PR field, and professionals every where are either loving it, hating it, or scurrying to catch up. The entirety of this year’s conference was highlighted by social media, from Tweets to wikis. From what I understand there was also a superb presentation on communicating with Millennials. I bypassed this session for another, but I have friends who are going to fill me in on the Millennials session.
I did learn a small bit about using Twitter in ways I had not yet considered. I didn’t learn any new functionality, but I will take my new knowledge and expound on that. I’ve always thought that Social Media was a very strong tool for relations building, but I never moved on it. Now there are people making livings off of social media marketing. It’s insane how long it took to catch on, yet how fast it’s spreading.
I’m excited to see what the world will church out next in this time of always being connected.
Excited to be back in the blogosphere!
