Deafened by the cacophony rising from 360 degrees of larynges celebrating the day. Blinded by anxiety ridden stomach aches. Silent as a ninja, because that’s what I do best in stressful situations. Grabbed the heavy cardboard tube, shook a faceless hand, smiled for the camera, finished. This moment was the culmination of three years grueling labor under the ever steady eyes of the masters of our studies.

In short; I’m a college graduate.

The official date was August 8, 2009 at 2:00 in the afternoon. I still am not sure how I feel about this. I’m excited that I’ve accomplished this task, especially in only 3 years. However I’m equally saddened to not be returning to SHSU this fall.

There are many great changes happening in my immediate future. All of which I am excited about, but it’s still hard to walk away from the place I’ve called home over the last three years. Many people complain about Huntsville and it’s lack of…everything. I am not one of them. I love that city and everything about it. Probably why Colie and I are getting married there.

My biggest ordeal is not sure where I’m going to be working when I get to Nebraska. I know it’s impossible to find a job currently, but try job hunting in another state! It’s basically terrible. On top of that I’m no longer sure what I want to do with my life. I’ve made the first couple of steps towards becoming a freelance Web designer*. I’ve had a passion for Web design for many years, and now I have the opportunity to hone my skills.

I have two weeks left at my internship. I’ve enjoyed my summer here in Round Rock. I’ve learned a lot about convention and visitors bureaus and municipalities. I’ve also learned a lot about where I’d prefer to work, and what type of person I enjoy spending my eight hours per day with. In total this has been a great experience with three of the best coworkers/superiors I’ve had to date.

Stepping out now. I’ll update again, sooner I hope. I plan to have my new freelance site up and running in the next few weeks. We’ll see how that goes.

Until next time.

*If you know anyone looking for a Web designer please let me know, and pass along contact details. It will be so greatly appreciated!

Today I ate lunch at Johnny T’s BBQ. It was basically the most deliciously moist (they also offer lean cuts) brisket that has cross my lips in quite some time! Also a very large serving of meat on my lunch plate. Most definitely no skimping at Johnny T’s. My lunch was served with a mayo based potato salad, seasoned fries, bread (of course) and their spicy barbecue sauce.
While I was happily munching my day away, enjoying every juicy bite of smoked cow and reading through the adventures of the ever so jovial Ignatius J. Reilly, my brain attacked an innocent thought bubble who wanted nothing more than for my lunch to be enjoyed. You see, the thought bubble inherently knew that if it were to reach my synapses then I would enter a state of unknowing about my future affairs with barbecued foods.
For most Texas boys this isn’t a bother. As some of you know however, I am soon to be transplanted to the Mid-West where I will become a resident of the state of Nebraska. I don’t know much about Nebraska. I know it is cold, flat, corn growing, holds a population smaller than the city of Houston, doesn’t have Whataburger and is closer to Canada than Austin. I do not know if they barbecue there. Doubly so, I do not know if it will ever live up to the standards I’ve grown up with.
This is a new fear in my preparation for this big new adventure in front of me. I will simply add it to my list until I get there and discover the truth about Nebraskan barbecue.

Getting a job.

Keeping head above water.

Starting designing Web sites as a real income source.

Learning Nebraska tax code for a sole proprietorship.

Tasty barbecue?

That’s the list by the way. A little misplaced it may be, still it stands to show that I have a lot to work through.

PS: When I say Barbecue I do not mean hamburgers and hot dogs. Those do not count. I mean briskets, ribs, sausages (related to the hot dog yes, but it makes the list) and of course whole pigs who later become that delicacy known as pulled pork.
