It’s been more than ten days since my last post here. I used to never want to write a blog without having something meaningful to say, but who’s to say that I won’t develop a meaningful thought while catching my readers up on everythng? Let’s see where this goes!

Foremost, I’ve been using my iPhone for a bit over two weeks now, and I love it. There are a lot of gripes that I’ve read about against the device, but for every complaint that fits me it has a feature which totally out weighs the problem. Hands down my favorite feature has to be the ability to sync my Google contacts with the phone. This has made any business I do on the phone flow nearly seamlessly into my Gmail account. It’s awesome.

Sadly there is not a Google Voice application available on non-jailbroken phones. This only bothers me because I want to use my GVoice account as my freelance number, and I can. An application would just make life simpler. I could probably go on about the major snafu this GVoice stuff has become between AT&T, Apple and Google, but let’s not get boring today.
All in all it’s a dang sweet phone. It has the ability to do so many wonderful things, e.g. I’m writing this blog on it now.
In matters of life, I have only one week left at my internship from today. It’s a pretty surreal thing to realize that in one week I will have packed all of my worldly possessions and said good-bye to the places I’ve called home for so many years. Nicole has been in Lincoln for almost two weeks now. She seems to be enjoying it, save for her occasional bout of lonliness. I’m hoping that I can get there and everything will begin to work out marvelously well. Worst case s enario I spend a bit longer time job hunting there than I’d like to, and settle for a job I would rather not have.
I know everyone needs to work cruddy jobs. It’s a pretty essential life experience. I think I’ve had enough of that. Before my position at SHSU Recreational Sports I worked at another department on campus. It started out great, but within a couple months I loathed the position. From the beginning I was not doing the work I had been hired on to do. Instead they continued to have my predecessor do that work. Which isn’t a problem she was damn good at it, but I did not sign up for this position to be a receptionist. Eventually I made my way out of that office and never looked back. I do have some great friends that came out of there, but those are pretty few in the long run.
On a lighter note I applied for another position in Lincoln yesterday. I’m trying to remain optimistic about it, but everything about this job hunt had been pretty futile so far. I’ll keep this place posted on my job search the best I can.
Going to see Inglorious Basterds tonight. I’ve heard nothing but good things about this film. It’s Tarantino for heaven’s sake! How could it not be awesome, especially since Robert Rodriguez was not involved in this film. I’ll let you guys know what my thoughts are on the show after tonight. It’s two and a half hours long, so we are in for an awesome ride I hope!

Leave me some love, or reviews of Inglorious Basterds if you’ve already seen it. On that note we could just talk about our favorite Tarantino movies altogether.

This morning Colie and I stepped out into the brave world of the witching hours to see the newest J.K. Rowling inspired blockbuster, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. First off, it’s been two years since I read this book. This is important to note because I have a terrible time remembering the chain of events in the books that I read last week. However I remembered the main plot line, and the movie corresponds pretty well.

I do not recall Harry meeting a nice girl in the underground before Dumbledore whisks him away to Slughorn’s temporary home. This is pretty trivial in the grand scheme of things, but rolls in with another long running theme that’s much more obvious in the film than the book. Among other things I don’t remember are, the intensity of Lavender’s love for Ron, Aragog’s funeral (totally my fault), Harry’s broken record attitude toward Draco and apparently I remember more than I thought.

They really played Quidditch down in this film, with only the one match ever shown, and Ron’s try-outs for Keeper. This is another one of those things that are great character development in a novel, but can be pretty irrelevant in a movie. I only bring this up because I rather enjoy the Quidditch match scenes.

By far and away Tom Felton takes home my award for best actor. Draco’s struggle with his task is never quite discussed openly. In the book it’s easy for Rowling to explain his emotions to the reader, but in a film its difficult for some actors to display this range of emotion without dialogue. I was continually impressed with Felton throughout the movie, and am kind of curious to seek out some of his other movies to see how he performs. If you disagree with this, then please speak up, let us know who you thought was better!

On the same topic of actors I want to do a quick bit about Helena Bonham Carter. This woman is spectacular at playing roles where the character is flat our crazy. She was awesome as Marla Singer in Fight Club, and now she is the perfect Bellatrix Lestange! Watching her in the movie last night was magnificent. She had very little screen time, but when she did appear with her band of Death Eaters, life was hell.

Sex was a heavily reoccurring theme throughout the film with the screen writers even going so far as to throw in a cheap “Did ya’ do it?” joke. Between girls climbing on boys and kneeling in front of boys, there’s a lot of noticeable sexual tension in Hogwarts. This is understandable since it’s a castle full of teenagers, but where was it in the rest of the films? Is Harry’s class just more rambunctious?

In the end, despite leaving the theatre at nearly three this morning, I still really enjoyed the film. It’s by far my favorite movie so far. Especially after the really disappointing Sirius-Bellatrix battle from Order of the Phoenix. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, then you should go see this. Maybe wait a few days. If last night is an indicator of anything it’s that this is a big release. The theatre we went to had 9 screenings of the movie going on, and all were sold out.

Have an opinion on the movie? Voice it!

Just wanted to add real quick some links to two great reviews. I agree with both, but also have some points that I don’t quite see eye-to-eye with, looking at you Mr. Gross. Enjoy!

Today I read a blog post by my good buddy KFO-G called Get The Popcorn. Throughout the summer she’s posted small reviews about the movies that she’s been watching. I’m woefully jealous of the time she has taken to actually do that, and completely shown me up. However she’s always been a much, much steadier blogger than I.

The most important part about her post today is her review of He’s Just Not That Into You:

I loved this movie! It had a ton of famous people in it. It had a lot of different story lines going on it once, but was easy to follow and fun to see how they would all relate back to eachother. I think this is one of those chick flicks that the guys could also enjoy. This one goes on the rainy day movie list.

I’m going to go ahead and pop her bubble. This is not a movie I think guys will enjoy. I think this movie was about an hour longer than it needed to be. While watching it with Fiancee, we checked the time about an hour and fifteen in, it had another hour left and I had no idea where else they could take the story. In the end it didn’t go far. I will say that it makes a good rainy day movie if you just want to get some warm and fuzzy in your life. However it does not measure up to other films.

Which brings me to my next story point. A few weeks ago Fiancee and I made a Blockbuster run, because we were still hoarding our Netflix. While in line I witnessed something ridiculous happen. The clerk actually convinced a couple to put Liam Neeson’s awesome, action flick Taken back on the shelf, and get He’s Just Not That Into You instead.

This leads me to believe 1 of 2 things:

The Clerk is a douche and wants to ruin these people’s night.

The couple has just started dating and the guy was trying to impress her.

Either way, no one who has seen Taken can reasonably say that it’s worse than He’s Just Not That Into You. Of course it’s just my opinion on the matter. Maybe I’m the mad hatter here.
